Why do we keep searching for better answers when we have not dared to ask the right questions?

This book challenges the way we think about politics, social justice, and human progress. From suicide prevention to housing justice, from democracy to education, the most transformative breakthroughs come not from repeating old answers but from daring to reframe the questions.

Instead of asking “Why did he take his life?”, we must ask “What kept him from finding reasons to stay?”
Instead of asking “How do we stop welfare abuse?”, we must ask “How do we expand dignity for all?”
Instead of asking “How do we win elections?”, we must ask “How do we secure democracy for the next generation?”
Through powerful stories, global case studies, and bold policy insights, Ping Xu reveals how reframing the question can break cycles of fear, scarcity, and blame — and open the way to dignity, trust, and freedom.
This is not just a book about asking questions. It is a blueprint for changing the narrative of society itself.
Change begins not with answers, but with the courage to ask better questions.

Ping Xu is a Taiwanese-born American author, interpreter, and global advocate for Universal Basic Income (UBI). A former concert pianist whose career was cut short by injury, she has dedicated her life to exploring the root causes of systemic injustice and offering bold, practical visions for reform. Xu is the author of Dismantling the Appendix (三部曲), Open the Sluice, and House Is a Human Right, Not a Commodity. She is also the founder of UBI Asia Pacific, a platform providing resources on UBI to Chinese-speaking audiences. Her work challenges outdated systems and inspires readers to replace fear and scarcity with dignity, trust, and freedom.
