Thousand Ways to Approach Sustainability Sustainability is no longer an unfamiliar term in today's world. However, if someone asked you to explain it in a single phrase, could you? Fortunately, the UN's World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) answered this question in 1987:
"Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Therefore, sustainability doesn’t just include environmental protection. In 2015, the United Nations further proposed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include both marine and terrestrial conservation.
